The Pope of the Pierpont Morgan Visconti is a bridge between eternity and society - a calendar priest, fundamentally, since the 'pontifex maximus', 'pope' or 'greatest bridge' was, even before Christianity - the chief administerer and regulator of time, of the calendar. So now the hierophant is the preserver of scholastic learning - the stable traditions that endure over time, and protect us from the loss of our heritage. At their best, they mend, repair, and keep society regenerative: conservative in the original sense. At their worst they resist any change or innovation and insist on rote formulas that have lost all meaning.
May your popes be of living wood, may your teachers be still learning, and may your libraries be connected to your souls.
