The oldest magick square known to humanity is called the Lo Shu by the Chinese. Mythically it was first seen on the back of a Great Tortoise. In the Western systems, it is assigned to the planet Saturn and known as the Kamea of Saturn. The crucial thing to know about this figure is that it's magic sum is 15. This is the same number as the Hebrew God name, Jah, or Yah (YH). This signifies its divine unifying power.
The Lo Shu is a foundation of Great Strength. If we understand it as an expression of the number 9 we can see the deep unconscious (associated also with 9 and the moon), as being accessible, consolidable by the Lo Shu.
The significance of the Devil in the middle pillar becomes clearer. Astride the bridge between Sun and Moon, this encounter allows us to bring the Lo Shu into play as a system of lunar roots which will eventually feed a solar flower.
Know this well. It is fundamental.
