The late alchemist, Richard Voss, aka m1thr0s, can be credited with the discovery of the TwinStar. At base, what the TwinStar is is a "magical tetractys". A numbering of the positions of the Tetractys 1-10, so as to create some powerful numerical alignments. The TS is so called because both it and its mirror reflection are required to form a complete energetic circuit. The power of the TS is that it is a map, parallel to the Tree of Life, that lets us envision the Sephiroth in a powerful star formation. This initiates the process of transforming the soul structure of the practitioner from an arboric, terrestrial model to a stellar, celestial model. A Tree has an above and below, a Star has a within and without.
In the TS, the numbers 1-9 are arranged around the central number 10, such that the three sides carry the total 17, and three "pillars" carry the total 11. Next, a path is traced from 1-10, in one direction, then back up to one, and traced again in the opposite direction. This will manifest the full TS sigil, which looks a bit like two skewed pentagrams on either side of a central pentagram without an upper point. The three become one within a triangle.
m1thr0s taught a method of spelling words along these circuits with one letter per station - and because he favored 11, he would cover each circuit in 11 beats (looping back to the topmost station for an unnumbered beat after 3 before continuing 4-10). This is slightly more elaborate than the natural 10 beats that the figure naturally calls for. By the same token a 13-beat incantation is also feasible.
These "spellings" charge the matrix of this figure with a powerful coherence and an underlying structure that Voss refered to as an "asana". In the meta-magick system which has inherited the TwinStar, this analogy could be retained, or it could be viewed as a brace, or chassis, upon which the spell sits, and which draws the spell into a powerful concentrated focus.
Adepts experimenting with this method will find that its logics disclose a universe of fields and forces, and that sacred geometric structures like the Merkabah, the Flower of Life, and the Lo Shu are easily connected.
Those who have researched the magick of the word "Abrahadabra" will enjoy the fact that the 11-beat TwinStar results in a figure that is created with two circuits (22), and has 19 paths connecting the spheres. Since 19x22=418, these adepts will be pleased.
